Dorothy Jean Bradley OBITUARY

Dorothy Jean Bradley of Merrillville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2024, in Stockbridge, Georgia, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Coahoma, Mississippi, on June 28, 1945, to Columbus Bradley Jr. and Ethel Lee (Johnson) Bradley, Dorothy was the eldest of twelve siblings. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, youngest sister Devotion Bradley (Bandy), and nephews Steven Trass and Samuel Bandy. Dorothy graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1964. She embarked on a career in the Secretarial-Administration, holding positions at Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Heart Association, Lake County Welfare Department, Sheet & Tin, and Lake County Juvenile Division, where she worked from 1984 until retirement in 2010. A devoted member of Jehovah’s Witnesses West Congregation, Dorothy was baptized in the faith in 1988. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and interactions with others. Above all, Dorothy loved her daughter’s and cherished her family and friends, valuing every moment spent with them. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughters, Javetta (Alford) Brown and Natasha Isabell (Ronald); loving grandchildren, Darius K. Brown and LaQuiya Pace; great-grandchildren, Bresha, Keontay and ZyQuiya. Her siblings, eight sisters and three brothers. She is also remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. She also had a very loving bond with several of her co-workers. From her daughters, Javetta and Natasha: “Our Mother was and will always remain the love of our lives. She was simply the greatest mom to have – kind, generous and loving. Our hearts are shattered, but through her love we have the strength we need to continue.” to be the daughters Dorothy raised. Wake will be held on Thursday, June 13th from 12:00 to 8:00 pm at Guy and Allen Funeral Home, 2959 West 11th, Avenue, Gary, Indiana, 46404 with family hour from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Memorial Service to be held on Friday, June 14th at 11:00 pm at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1401 W. 20th Ave, Gary, Indiana 46407.
