Rev. John P. Szura, OSA OBITUARY
Rev. John P. Szura, OSA, age 83, died on June 7. He professed vows in the Augustinian Order in 1959 and was ordained in 1966. Fr. Szura had two doctorate degrees and taught at Mendel Catholic High School, Chicago; Augustinian Academy, St. Louis; Tolentine College, Olympia Fields, IL; Villanova University, Villanova, PA; Washington Theological Union, Washington, D.C.; Loyola College, Baltimore; Catholic Theological Union, Chicago; Mundelein Seminary, Mundelein, IL; Merrimack College, North Andover, MA; and universities in Peru and the Philippines. He worked for many years with the Augustinian NGO at the UN and was well known for his dedication to social justice. Fr. Szura was the loving son of the late John and Antoinette (Duch) Szura. He is survived by his aunt Dolores Duch and cousins Gary Duch and Tom Szura. Visitation is on Wednesday, June 12th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by Mass at 12:00 p.m., at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine, 7740 S. Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60620. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Augustinians, 10161 S. Longwood Dr., Chicago, IL 60643, to support care of elderly friars and seminary formation of young friars appreciated.
