The Supreme Court ruled Friday on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a case focused on a Mississippi law banning most abortions after 15 weeks.
With this ruling, the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision was overturned, ending constitutional protections for abortion that had been in place nearly 50 years.
“The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives,” the decision reads.
